My Waina (Masa)

I love waina (Masa) especially when served with yummy soup that goes well with it. It's a popular northern delicacy. I do prepare waina at least once a week and today I thought I should share my waina recipe with Cookpad Fam. And my next post would be how I prepare my waina soup In Shaa Allah. Do stay tuned ☺️👍

Steps

24 hours
  1. 1

Here are a sample of our ingredients

A picture of step 1 of My Waina (Masa).
  2. 2

Measure 3 cups of the white rice and wash very well, ensure to remove stones if rice has stones.

  3. 3

Soak the washed rice in water for 8hours. (I usually soak mine over the night so I can make it for dinner the next day).

  4. 4

Measure another 1 cup of rice, wash, put it in a pot, boil and allow it cook very well. You will discover that your soaked rice would be soft after 8hours.

  5. 5

Measure 1/4 tea spoon of yeast, pour into the cooked rice. Get your blender (if it's strong enough else, you should take it to a grinding engine), drain the water of soaked rice and pour into the blender. Add the cooked rice with yeast into the blender.

  6. 6

Add little Water and blend to a very smooth paste. Slice onions into the paste, seal it up or cover for it, set aside for 5hours.

  7. 7

Get the paste, add sugar, salt and water if it's too thick. Stir very well and ready to fry.

  8. 8

Get your Waina pot/morphine pan and place it on fire. Greece pan with vegetable oil and use a deep spoon to fetch the paste into the morphine pan. Leave it to fry for a minute depending on the strength of the fire. Turn it to the other side using a small spoon or chop stick and allow to fry to achieve a light golden brown.

  9. 9

Your Waina is ready. Pack out of the pan. You can eat it like that as snacks. You can also eat it with honey, spices pepper (yaji) and of course with soup 😋 I had mine with soup and it was super yummy 😋. Bon Appetit
