Easy White Sauce in the Microwave

I was able to easily make this by referring to Ms. Sachiko Murakami's microwavable recipes. The flavor is simple but skim milk powder and vegetable oil turned out to be a hit and it was easy to make! I have used this in other recipes as well and it doesn't affect the flavor.

If you're want a stronger and richer flavor, butter is the best.
Using vegetable or oilve oil gives it a more simple flavor. It's hard to thicken it though so please refer to Step 5. I think it's best to heat up gradually and cook down till the moisture evaporates.
In Step 4, be sure to mix well so that the flour doesn't settle on the bottom. Recipe by maynyan

Ingredients

1 serving
  1. 100 ml◆Milk
  2. 1 tbspWhite flour
  3. 1 tbspVegetable oil, butter or margarine
  4. 1 dashof each Salt and pepper
  5. Skim milk version (Using skim milk powder and water instead of regular milk. Please refer to the photos from Steps 10 to 13)
  6. 2 tbsp◆Skim milk powder
  7. 100 ml◆Water

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

If you are using butter or margarine, melt it in the microwave for a few minutes.

  2. 2

Add the oil to the powder and mix until it's no longer lumpy.

  3. 3

Add in 100 ml of milk gradually while mixing well.

  4. 4

Heat it up in a microwave for one minute while keeping an eye on it, so it doesn't boil over. Take it out and mix well while seasoning with salt and pepper.

  5. 5

[New version] 1 minute and 30 seconds at 500W caused it to boil over. Microwave for 1 minute and 10 seconds and then mix well for about 2 minutes while it's still hot.

  6. 6

This is a potato gratin version. It uses a generous amount of the white sauce and blue cheese. They're perfect together.

  7. 7

If you use extra virgin olive oil, the color will change slightly like this. Even at room temperature though, the flour will mix in well. Use it if you prefer.

  8. 8

[Skim milk powder version] Mix the skim milk powder, flour, and vegetable oil together well.

  9. 9

[Skim milk powder version] Add the water in gradually while mixing.

  10. 10

[Skim milk powder version] It should be the right thickness after adding about 50 ml of water. If you're using it in stew or as a pasta sauce, you can add in the ingredients that you're going to add to the sauce now.

  11. 11

[Skim milk powder version] Once you've added in the 100 ml of water and mixed, start with Step 4 and heat it up to make the white sauce.
