Easy White Sauce in the Microwave

I've been making white sauce with this recipe for a long time. It's easy, but the taste is pretty authentic! Perfect for doria (rice casserole) and dishes cooked au gratin.

Microwave it without cling film wrapped over it! It may not seem thick enough at first, but once it cools down, the sauce will naturally thicken. The sauce is well seasoned, so adjust the taste with other ingredients! Recipe by Toiroiro

  3. 400 mlMilk
  4. 2/3 tspSalt
  5. 1 pinchPepper
  6. 1/2 tspSoup stock granules

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Put the plain flour and butter in a heat-proof bowl and microwave for 30 seconds at 500 W to melt the butter.

  2. 2

    Whisk until it's all smooth.

  3. 3

Add milk, and mix together thoughroughly. Microwave it again for 3 minutes without covering with cling film. Mix it well.

  4. 4

Microwave for a further 3 minutes, again uncovered, until the surface looks done. Season with salt and pepper, and add the soup stock granules to complete.

  5. 5

I used the white sauce to make into spaghetti gratin! Half of the sauce was mixed with the sautéed vegetables and cooked spaghetti, and the rest was poured over generously!

  6. 6

I changed the photo on the top in 2010.
