Wash and soak chanadal for 2-3 hours.

Heat ghee in a cooker. Fry long chopped onion until dark brown. Separate brown onion in a bowl.

Now add black cardomom, cloves, cumin seed, bay leaf into leftover oil saute until fragrant.

Add chopped onion, fry until light pink, add chopped tomatoes, green chilli add salt, red chilli powder, garam masala and saute for 1 minute.

Separate 1/2 the mixture into a bowl. Now it's time to add layers

Add a layer of chana dal use 1/2 only to make another layer, then add a layer of washed rice, one layer of dark brown onion, another layer of saute mixture, chana dal and rice.

Add 3 cup water for rice and extra 1/2 cup water for chana dal. Cover the lid until 2 whistle. Let the khichdi cook on high flame.

After 2 whistle open the the lid and serve khichdi with raita, achaar, salad.
