Ingredients

15 minutes
2 servings
  1. 1 cupsemiya(rice vermicelli) ready
  2. 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  3. 1small onion chopped
  4. 1 sprigcurry leaves
  5. 1green chilli chopped
  6. 1/2 tsp ginger chopped (optional)
  7. Tempering ingredients for semiya upma
  8. 1 1/2 tsp oil or ghee
  9. 1 /4 tsp mustard seeds
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  11. 1 tspchana dal (split Bengal gram) (optional)
  12. 2-3 tbsppeanuts or cashews
  13. 1 pinchasofeotida (optional)
  14. 3/4 cup mix veggies (optional)
  15. 2 tbspcoriander leaves chopped
  16. 2 tbspfresh grated coconut for garnish

Steps

    I'm using rice vermicelli which is made & cooked so need to soak, dry & roast.

  2. 2

    Heat oil in a pan, Add peanuts or cashews. Fry them until golden & crunchy. Remove to a plate.

  3. 3

    To the same pan, add mustard, cumin,chana dal, & urad dal.Fry untilthe dal turns golden and roasted well.

  4. 4

    Next add hinges, onions, ginger, green chilli and curry leaves.Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes until the onions turn transparent.

  5. 5

    This step is optional. If using carrot, beans, peas add them now and saute for another 3 mins. Cook covered on a low flame till they turn slightly tender in a separate kadai.

  6. 6

    Add salt. Transfer semiya to the pan & stir immediately. Garnish semiya upma with grated coconut, roasted peanuts.Serve hot with tea or coffee.
