Conchas are a favorite for both kids and adults, so here’s how you can make them at home.

Prepare the dough by mixing the salt, bread flour, sugar, and yeast. Gradually add the warm milk.

Continue mixing until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Knead for about 15 minutes, or until the dough is smooth. Let it rise until it doubles in size.

Punch down the dough and divide into 80-gram (about 2.8-ounce) portions. Shape into balls, cover the surface with vegetable lard, and top each with 30 grams (about 1 ounce) of the topping paste.

Let rise for 40 minutes before baking. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 25–30 minutes.

For the topping, mix the bread flour, powdered sugar, and vegetable shortening. Divide into two portions and add cocoa powder to one half.
