Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cupChana / Bengal Gram Dal, pre-soaked in water for 20 mins
  2. 3/4 cupDhuli Mung Dal (Yellow Mung), pre- soaked for 10 mins
  3. 1/4 cupRice, pre-soaked for 20 mins
  4. 1large Onion, finely chopped
  5. 2-3Tomatoes, finely chopped
  6. 1/2 inchpiece ginger, thinly sliced
  7. 3-4garlic cloves, finely chopped
  8. 2Zucchinis / Tori, peeled & finely chopped
  9. 1large Potato, peeled & diced
  10. 1-2Green Chillies, thinly sliced
  11. 1Dry Red Chilli
  12. 1/4 tspAsafoetida Powder
  13. 1/2 tspTurmeric Powder
  14. 1/4 tspCoriander Powder
  15. 1 tspCumin Seeds
  16. 1 tspRasam Powder
  17. 2 tspGhee
  18. Water, as required
  19. 2 tbspCoriander Leaves, finely chopped
  20. Salt to taste

Steps

    Wash & soak the Chana Dal seperately in water for 20 mins.

  2. 2

    Wash & soak the mung dal & rice seperately for 10 mins.

  3. 3

    Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker.

  4. 4

    Add the cumin seeds, hing, dry red chilli & turmeric powder, saute briskly for a few seconds.

  5. 5

    Add the ginger-garlic, saute briskly for a few seconds.

  6. 6

    Add the green chillies and onions, fry until translucent.

  7. 7

    Add the tomatoes, saute until they turn soft.

  8. 8

    Add the tori & potatoes, saute with the masala. You can use any other veggies of your choice.

  9. 9

    Add the soaked dals & rice, mix well. Add at least 3-4 times the water in ratio.

  10. 10

    Immediately add the coriander & rasam powders. Add salt, mix well.

  11. 11

    Add half of the chopped fresh coriander, put on the lid and pressure cook.

  12. 12

    After the first big whistle, leave to simmer for 15 mins on low heat.

  13. 13

    Take off heat, let the pressure come off on its own.

  14. 14

    Garnish with the remaining coriander leaves. Serve hot, topped with ghee & with dahi, pickle and papad on the side.
