This is a famous sweet dish of Maharashtra state (India). It is a sweet paratha/ flatbread stuffed with filling of chana dal(split chickpea lentils) and sugar or jaggery. It is served in main course with the side dishes like ghee( clarified butter), yoghurt,milk,kadhi, aamras or any kheer(porridge). Today is Guru poornima(Indian festival) I made Puranpoli specially on this occasion as an offering to the God. Children love this sweet dish so it can be given in lunch box too

Prepare dough first

For this, take wheat flour in a mixing bowl

Add salt, oil

Now add water gradually in batches and knead soft dough

Apply oil and keep aside

For for stuffing

Soak chana dal and rice for minimum 2hrs

Cook in a pressure cooker till it turns soft by adding 3cups of water

After cooling, mash it with a masher

Add sugar and jaggery

Cook until it becomes thick like dough

Grind it in manual traditional puranpoli machine

Let it get cool

Now for making puranpoli, take a small portion of wheat dough

Roll with the help of a rolling pin like a poori or chapati

Place stuffing in center

Seal and fully cover the stuffing

Again roll gently like paratha

Roast on hot tawa on both the sides by smearing ghee (clarified butter)

Serve hot with ghee
