Soak matar dal for at least 3-4hrs. Rinse thoroughly with water. Cook in a pressure cooker till whistle blows 3-4 times. Switch off the burner.

Rinse cucumber with water. Peel off the skin and cut into small pieces. In a kadhai, add oil and switch on the burner. When the oil becomes hot, add all the ingredients for tempering and allow them to flutter. Add sliced cucumber into the hot oil and mix properly. Cover with lid and allow to sauté for 2mins.

Add all the spices and water. Cook for another 5mins till the cucumber becomes soft. Add boiled matar dal into it and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Switch off the burner and collect in a serving bowl.
