In a pot, boil the swedes chunks with pinch of turmeric powder until they are soft and easily mashable. Drain the water and let them cool slightly.

Once the swede are cooled, mash them using a potato masher or the back of a fork.
You can keep them slightly chunky or make them completely smooth, depending on your preference. - 3
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin & nigella seeds,Asafoetida and let them splutter.
Add minced garlic and chopped green chilli or add them without chopped. Sauté for a minute until fragrant. - 4
Add chopped onions and cook until they turn translucent.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts to separate. - 5
Add the mashed swede to the pan and mix well with the onion-tomato mixture. Cook for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.

Sprinkle garam masala and lemon juice over the mixture and mix thoroughly cover with lid and let simmer for 5-6 mins very low heat.
Turn off the heat and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves. - 7
Your "Rutabaga (swede) mashed curry” is ready to be served. It goes well with roti, paratha, naan, pitta bread or rice.
