Luqaimat (Sweet Fried Dough Balls)
I really love this dish, especially with milk tea in the morning or evening, or even without tea. I usually make my sister Heba’s recipe for luqaimat whenever I want to eat them for breakfast with tea. But this time, I decided to try a recipe I had written down a while ago but never tried. It’s a bit different because it’s soaked in syrup, while my sister’s version is delicious and fluffy with powdered sugar. I decided to try this one, and it turned out really great—my husband loved it, and I ate every last piece! I hope you enjoy it if you try it.

Steps
- 1
Add all the dry ingredients and mix before gradually pouring in the water. Knead by hand until the dough is between liquid and firm in consistency. Let it rest for 30 minutes in a warm place to rise.
- 2
Heat a deep pan with plenty of oil. In a small cup, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Dip your fingertips in the oil, then use them to scoop a small ball of dough.
- 3
Drop the dough ball into the hot oil; it should form a small, round shape.
- 4
Continue making small batches, shaping the dough into small balls (☆ The oil on your fingertips and in the piping bag helps prevent the dough from sticking ☆).
- 5
Fry until golden brown, then remove and immediately soak in the cold syrup. Serve and enjoy!
- 6
If you have a piping bag, grease the inside with oil, fill it with dough, and use your oiled fingertips to help drop the dough into the oil.
