A heartfelt thank you for 1000 reviews! This dish pairs wonderfully with beer and is also recommended as a side dish. The origin of this recipe: Inspired by a local izakaya menu item, 'Shrimp with Miso Mayo', I added garlic to the miso mayo and tried it on shiitake mushrooms, which turned out delicious.

Ingredients

Serves 2 to 3 servings
  1. 7-8large shiitake mushrooms
  2. 2-3 cm(about 1 inch) of grated garlic from a tube
  3. 1-2 tablespoonsmayonnaise
  4. 1/2-1 teaspoonmiso

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Wash the shiitake mushrooms and pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove the stems. (Excess moisture will make them soggy and less tasty.)

  2. 2

Mix the ingredients marked with an asterisk (*) and spread on the underside of the mushroom caps.

  3. 3

Grill the mushrooms using a fish grill. Since mayonnaise burns easily, cook over medium to low heat.

  4. 4

You can also use a toaster oven. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 15 to 20 minutes, adjusting based on your appliance.
