Thank you for over 100 reports! Just sprinkle Tabasco on ochazuke. The spicy heat and tanginess of Tabasco surprisingly go really well together.

How this recipe came about:
My husband came up with the idea. We thought the spiciness of Tabasco would work, but wondered if the tanginess would too. We tried it with some excitement and found it delicious! We both got hooked, and since we couldn't find anyone else posting about it, I decided to share. Hope others enjoy it too! 2018.7.30

  • 1serving prepared ochazuke (use store-bought or homemade)
  • 2shakes or more, to taste Tabasco sauce (any variety you like)

Steps

    Prepare ochazuke and sprinkle Tabasco sauce on top, then mix. You can use store-bought or homemade ochazuke. Use any type of Tabasco you prefer.

    In the photo: 1.5 oz (45 grams) frozen brown rice and 5 shakes of Tabasco pepper sauce. NAO recommends adding takana pickles (see cookpad.com recipe ID:19947719).

    Toppings: You can enjoy it with or without toppings. Raw mentaiko (spicy cod roe) tasted a bit bitter, so fish roe may not pair well. Ume (pickled plum), takana (pickled mustard greens), and nozawana (pickled greens) were all delicious.
