Steps
- 1
Here are the ingredients. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract (if using) to make the egg mixture. Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste.
- 2
The egg mixture is ready. Remove the crusts from the bread and cut each slice in half to help the bread soak up the mixture better.
- 3
Pour the egg mixture into a shallow dish and soak the bread slices. Microwave at 500W for 1 minute on one side, then flip and microwave for another minute.
- 4
The bread will absorb the egg mixture. If you have any mixture left, you can use it to soak the crusts.
- 5
Melt butter in a skillet over very low heat.
- 6
Add the bread, cover with a lid, and cook for 5 minutes over very low heat to steam and toast. Cooking slowly on low heat is the key to making it fluffy.
- 7
When the bottom is golden brown, flip and cook the other side for another 5 minutes.
- 8
Don't forget to keep the lid on.
- 9
When done, serve with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or your favorite toppings.
