This is how my family overcame starvation in concentration camps and world war two. Their recipes are meant to honor them and help people in war zones now.

Flower bulbs can be poisonous, but were not deadly in small quantities. Covered with water for a day, a flowerbulb provides broth and slowly chewed nutrition, and freshly sprouted greens in a week if you could wait that long.

Leather, cut in strips and soaked in water can be chewed to provide nutrition and broth.

Green twigs contain cellulose for chewing, can be cooked with leaves in a can heated by harder twigs.

Rodents are true survival. They can be caught with a steel wire made from an electrical cable, made into a snare and a bit of food bait, intestines are used to grow maggots, meat dried or boiled in discarded can for broth and meat.

Flies will lay eggs in rodent intestines and breed maggots in days. Maggots are tasty when boiled or fried, can be chewed fresh.

Hair, feathers, wool, cotton, linnen, other fibers, roots, grasses, weeds, can be chewed
