Ingredients

  1. 1 cupcorn meal/ polenta
  2. 1 cupyogurt
  3. 1 tspbaking soda
  4. 1/4 tspginger paste
  5. 1/2 tspgreen chilli paste (optional)
  6. 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  7. 1/2 tspurad dal (split black gram)
  8. 1.2 tbspoil
  9. water to make batter
  10. to tastesalt

Steps

  1. 1

    In a heavy bottom pan lightly fry cumin seeds,urad dal and polenta. Remove from heat and cool.

  2. 2

    In a bowl mix yogurt, ginger chilli paste and salt. Mix polenta and slowly add water to make idli batter. Batter should be thick as pancake mix. Add baking soda with 1/4 tsp of water and mix well.

  3. 3

    Grease idli plates and pour batter on it. Steam it for around 12-15 min. Check with a knife if idli is cooked in center.

  4. 4

    Remove plates, keep aside for a few minutes to cool.

  5. 5

    Serve with any chutney or Sambar.
