Ingredients

Prep time -15 mins,Soak-24h, Steam-12 mins,Cool-5m
2-3 servings
  1. Idli Batter
  2. 1 cupIdli rice
  3. 1 cupUrad Dal
  4. 1 Tbspmethi or fenugreek seeds
  5. 2 TbspChura or Flattened rice
  6. 1/2 tspsalt
  7. Chetti Idli
  8. 8-9Idli’s cut into pieces
  9. 1 tspginger paste
  10. 1 tspgarlic paste
  11. 2-3green chillies chopped
  12. 1medium size tomato chopped fine
  13. 1mediuk size onion chopped fine
  14. 1 tspred chilli powder
  15. 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  16. 1 tspblack pepper powder
  17. 1/8 tspsalt
  18. 1 sprigcurry leaves
  19. 1/4 cupoil
  20. Idli moulds, 1 Tbsp oil to grease idli moulds, steamer
  21. Banana leaf to serve

Steps

Prep time -15 mins,Soak-24h, Steam-12 mins,Cool-5m
  1. 1

    Idli - wash idli rice well and soak for 8 hrs, wash Urad Dal well and soak for 8 hrs, wash Chura well and soak and add fenugreek seeds to Chura

  2. 2

    Adding little water add idli rice, Urad Dal, chura and fenugreek seeds to blender and blend smooth, pour to a bowl and ferment 24 hrs, add salt and mix well

    Grease idli moulds, pour the batter and steam in a steamer for 12 mins, set aside to cool, demould and set aside for next step

    Chetti Idli - cut the idli into pieces, chop the onion, chop tomato and green chilies

    In a wok heat oil, add chopped onion and cook till soft, add chopped tomato and green chilies, ginger and garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and mix well, on low flame oil should surface

    Add idli and mix well

    Set aside and sprinkle lime juice

  8. 8

    Plate on banana leaf and enjoy on this World Idli Day

Tips

Soak the idli ingredients well, fermenting is essential
