Garlic Chilli Mackerel Rice Bowl

This is a quick and easy dish that I often make with canned Sardines. Today I used canned Mackerel fillets in brine, and it was quite salty. You might use Mackerel in oil OR water. You really need to alter the amount of Soy Sauce depending on the saltiness of the Mackerel.

This is a quick and easy dish that I often make with canned Sardines. Today I used canned Mackerel fillets in brine, and it was quite salty. You might use Mackerel in oil OR water. You really need to alter the amount of Soy Sauce depending on the saltiness of the Mackerel.
Steps
- 1
Heat Oil in a small frying pan over medium heat, cook Onion, Garlic and Chilli.
- 2
When Onion is softened, add the drained Mackerel, and stir for a minute. Add Sake (OR Mirin) and Soy Sauce, and stir to combine. *Note: Alter the amount of Soy Sauce depending on the saltiness of the Mackerel.
- 3
Half fill a bowl with warm Cooked Rice and cover it with the Mackerel mixture. Add some Spring Onion, Toasted Sesame Seeds and Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix), and enjoy.
- 4
*Note: The reason why the rice looks purple is because it was cooked with some black rice and other grains.
