Ingredients

1 Serving
  1. 1 can(*125g) Mackerel In Brine *drained, broken into bite-size pieces
  2. 1/4Onion *thinly sliced
  3. 1small clove Garlic *finely chopped
  4. as requiredChilli Flakes
  5. 1 tablespoonSake (Rice Wine) *OR Mirin for slightly sweet flavour
  6. 1 teaspoonOil *I used Sesame Oil
  7. 2 teaspoonsSoy Sauce *alter the amount
  8. 1 servingwarm Cooked Rice
  9. Toasted Sesame Seeds
  10. Finely chopped Spring Onion
  11. Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) OR Ground Chilli *optional

Steps

    Heat Oil in a small frying pan over medium heat, cook Onion, Garlic and Chilli.

  2. 2

    When Onion is softened, add the drained Mackerel, and stir for a minute. Add Sake (OR Mirin) and Soy Sauce, and stir to combine. *Note: Alter the amount of Soy Sauce depending on the saltiness of the Mackerel.

  3. 3

    Half fill a bowl with warm Cooked Rice and cover it with the Mackerel mixture. Add some Spring Onion, Toasted Sesame Seeds and Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix), and enjoy.

    *Note: The reason why the rice looks purple is because it was cooked with some black rice and other grains.
