My Late Mom loved Koi or Climbing Perch, a freshwater river fish and very tasty and flavourful. Her favourite was to cook in mustard paste or make a Jhaal. I followed her recipe to the T.

My Late Mom loved Koi or Climbing Perch, a freshwater river fish and very tasty and flavourful. Her favourite was to cook in mustard paste or make a Jhaal. I followed her recipe to the T.
Steps

Wash the Koi fishes well and smear with turmeric powder, 1 tsp mustard oil and salt and set aside for 10 mins

In a pan heat mustard oil, add the fishes gently and on medium flame fry, flip sides after 2 mins and fry, set aside

In a bowl add mustard paste and red chillies powder, turmeric powder, how water and mix, set aside
- 4
In the same pan add Panchphoron seeds, whole red chillies split, the mustard seed paste, slit green chillies and stir well, add hot water, add salt and mix well

Add the fried fishes and on medium flame cook, when mustard oil surfaces, set aside
- 6
Plate with steamed rice and enjoy 😊
Tips
When smearing Koi, add mustard oil to prevent from oil falling on your face
Keep the flame on medium to low when cooking the fishes
Soak mustard seed preferably overnight and make a paste
