Hidden Heart Valentines Pound Cake

Valentines is coming up and I have been doing a little baking lately and I am happy to share this with all of you :) I had fun baking this cute cake. If you are thinking of baking some cake and are not sure how to go about it, you should give this a try! Its not complicated as you use store bought cake mix ... now of course you can go all out and do the whole thing from scratch but while keeping a 10.5mos old this is the bestest thing ever! :)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to the temperature mentioned in the vanilla pound cake mix box
- 2
In a bowl, assemble the vanilla pound cake mix as per the directions. Add small amounts of the pink food colouring to the batter and mix the colour in
- 3
Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake according to mix directions.Once done, remove from the pan and allow the cake to cool completely
- 4
When the cake is almost done, mix the chocolate pound cake mix together. Set the temperature of the oven at the temperature mentioned on the chocolate cake mix
- 5
Back to the gorgeous pink cake :) - Cut the pound cake into slices the same thickness of the cookie cutter. Using the cookie cutter cut one heart of each slice. Set aside the scraps
- 6
Butter the same pan and place the pink cake in the middle of the prepared pan
- 7
Pour the chocolate mix equally on either sides and over the top, you would want to be patient with this step, so that the pink hearts are covered well with the chocolate cake mix
- 8
Bake the cake to the directions of the chocolate pound cake. Remove from oven, and allow it to cool completely. Slowly and very carefully slice through the cake and voila... your chocolate cake will have pretty pink hearts right in the middle of it
- 9
Enjoy!
