Ingredients

2-serving
  • 3Tomatoes Medium Size - cooked
  • 2 teaspoonstoovar dal - cooked
  • 1 1/2 TeaspoonsRasam Powder
  • 1 TeaspoonJaggery Powdered
  • 1/4 TeaspoonTamarind Paste
  • 2 TeaspoonsCilantro coriander leaves /
  • 5 - 6Curry Leaves Fresh
  • 1/2 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder
  • 1/4 TeaspoonBlack Pepper Crushed
  • Salt
  • For Seasoning / Tadka
  • 1 teaspoonGhee
  • 1 teaspoonMustard Seeds
  • Asafoetida / hing

Steps

  1. 1

    Pressure cook dal and tomatoes.

  2. 2

    Mash dal to fine paste. Remove peel from boiled tomatoes and mash it well.

  3. 3

    In a bowl, add all dry ingredients - rasam powder, salt, jaggery, turmeric powder, hing, cilantro leaves, curry leaves. Add about 1 cup of water.

  4. 4

    Allow this mixture to boil well. Once it starts to boil, add the cooked dal and allow to boil.

  5. 5

    Once this boils, add the tomato paste and about 2 cups of water. Allow this to cook for 8-10 minutes till it comes to a good boil.

  6. 6

    For seasoning, melt ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add hing. Add the seasoning to the boiling Rasam.

  7. 7

    Serve hot with rice. Can be served as a soup.
