Ingredients

  1. 1.1 pounds (500 grams)kunafa pastry
  2. 1/2 cupmelted ghee or unsalted butter (about 115 grams)
  3. 2 tablespoonspowdered sugar
  4. 3large containers plain yogurt (about 24 ounces or 680 grams total)
  5. 2 tablespoonssugar
  6. 2 tablespoonsshredded coconut (optional)
  7. Simple syrup
  8. Chopped mixed nuts and shredded coconut for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

    Place the kunafa pastry in the freezer before using.

    Break the kunafa into small pieces, then add the powdered sugar and melted ghee or butter. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Grease a baking pan with a little ghee or butter and spread half of the kunafa mixture evenly in the pan.

  4. 4

    Mix the yogurt with the sugar and coconut, then spread this mixture over the kunafa in the pan.

  5. 5

    Cover the filling with the remaining kunafa mixture and gently smooth the surface.

  6. 6

    Bake the kunafa in a 350°F (180°C) oven until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Pour cold simple syrup over the hot kunafa, flip it out of the pan, and garnish with chopped nuts and coconut if desired. Enjoy!
