Preheat oven to 325°F.

Cream together sugars, shortening, egg, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl.

Add the flour and baking powder.

Add water and continue mixing until dough forms a ball.

Roll dough into balls (I make mine about 3/4 inch) and flatten slightly onto a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until cookies are light brown.

*This recipe makes 50 to 60 cookies depending on how large you make them.*
