Slow Cooker German Meatballs

Every Oktoberfest, my half German wife and I like to make typical and atypical German Dishes. The past two years, we have made an old recipe for German Meatballs. They are very tasty.

This year, we cooked them in the slow cooker and they were oh so good. So tender and flavorful. With some noodles and string/green beans, it is a great dish.

Ingredients

6-8 servings
  1. 1/2 lbUnseasoned Pork
  2. 1/2 lbBeef
  3. 1Egg
  4. 1 1/2 tbspBread Crumbs
  5. 1/2 tbspPaprika
  6. 1 pinchpepper
  7. 1/2 tspDried Parsley
  8. 1 pinchNutmeg
  9. 2 (12 oz)Jars of Fat Free Brown Gravy, 24 oz altogether

Steps

    Preheat the oven to 400 Degrees.

    Mix all of the ingredients, except the gravy, together, but careful not to over-mix. That will make the meatballs tough and rubbery.

    Form the mixture into golf sized balls, then place them onto a baking dish. The mixture should make about 12 meatballs.

  4. 4

    Place the meatballs into the preheated oven. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip them over. If you do not wish to put them into the slow cooker, then cook them for another 5 minutes.

    After that, bake for another 10 minutes until somewhat crispy on the outside. Again, if you do not wish to put them into the slow cooker, then cook them for another 5 minutes.

    Let the meatballs cool for about 15 minutes, then place them into the slow cooker.

  7. 7

    Pour both jars of gravy on top of the meatballs, close lid, put the temperature on low and cook for 4 to 6 hours.

Since I was a kid, I remember sitting in the kitchen to watch and/or help my parents. As I grew up, I decided to try their recipes and experiment with different recipes. Some were very good and I re-make them all of the time. Others? Yeah, I never tried them again. All of the recipes that I post are the very good ones.Also, while growing up, my pops suffered from high blood pressure, so my mom stopped adding sodium. Since that is how I was raised, all of the dishes that I post do not have any extra sodium added to it. A lot of friends and family who try my recipes, either do not notice nor miss it. But in no way am I saying not to add salt if you use my recipes. If you want to add it, then go for it.In closing, I hope that you enjoy my recipes. If you use any, then please post pictures. Enjoy!
