Ingredients

  • For the shawarma bread:
  • 3 cupsflour (about 375 grams)
  • Pinchsalt
  • Pinchsugar
  • 1little oil
  • 1little water
  • 1little yeast
  • For the chicken marinade:
  • 1chicken breast
  • 1 containerplain yogurt
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cumin
  • Coriander
  • Turmeric
  • For the garlic sauce:
  • 4 tablespoonscornstarch
  • 1 cupwater (about 240 ml)
  • 2garlic cloves
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoonvinegar
  • 1lemon

Steps

    Marinate the chicken with the listed ingredients and refrigerate for 6 hours to let the flavors soak in.

    Mix the dough ingredients and knead until smooth. Let the dough rise, then divide it into small balls and roll each one out into a flatbread shape.

    Heat a skillet and cook the bread over low heat. Once cooked, cover the bread to keep it warm.

    For the garlic sauce, cook the water and cornstarch together on the stove, stirring until the mixture thickens. Blend with the remaining ingredients until smooth to make the garlic sauce.

    Sauté the marinated chicken with onions and spices until fully cooked. To assemble, spread a layer of garlic sauce on the bread, add the chicken, and roll it up to make a Syrian shawarma wrap. Enjoy!
