preheat oven to 200°F. Tip the onions into small shallow nonstick tin. Arrange sausages on top of onions, then add oil to roast for 20 mins.

While roasting, make the batter. Sift flour into a bowl, drop the egg in the centre and beat in the milk a little at a time until it makes it smooth batter. Stir in the mustard and thyme then season.

Pour batter quickly into tin and return to oven for 40 mins until.batter has risen and golden. Serve with steamed carrots and cabbage.
