Ingredients

  1. 1/2 poundself-rising flour (about 1 2/3 cups or 225 grams)
  2. 1 teaspoonactive dry yeast (4 grams)
  3. 1/2 teaspoonsugar
  4. 1/2 teaspoonsalt
  5. 1 cupwarm water (about 240 ml)
  6. Olive oil (for frying)
  7. Honey (for drizzling)
  8. Ground cinnamon (for sprinkling)

Steps

  1. 1

    In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add the warm water and stir until you have a thick, smooth batter.

  3. 3

    Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rest for 40 minutes.

  4. 4

    Heat olive oil in a deep pot until hot.

  5. 5

    Using a tablespoon, scoop some batter and drop it into the hot oil. Dip the spoon in water before each scoop to prevent sticking.

  6. 6

    Once the loukoumades turn golden brown, remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels.

  7. 7

    While still warm, drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon.
