Slow Cooker Mackie Cheese Steak

When I was a child, my mom would make us Steak-umms about every other month. She would pull apart the two pieces of steak slices, then cut those pieces in half. That would be our dinner. I did not know any better. To me, that was what a cheese steak was.

In college, I was able to try a real cheese steak and loved it. I have tried to make it at home, but it was never quite the same. When we bought the slow cooker, I was convinced to try to make it in there.

I have checked out a lot of recipes, but they all seemed a lot of ingredients. Every recipe that I have, I prefer to keep my recipes simple. Some of the slow cooker cheese steak recipes called for using a whole container of broth, but that seemed to be a bit excessive to us.

This is the recipe that we came up with together, my wife and I. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Enjoy!

Ingredients

6-8 hours
4-6 servings
  1. 2-3 lbsbottom round steak, sliced
  2. 2-3bell peppers, sliced
  3. 1large onion, sliced
  4. 1 tbspground black pepper
  5. 1 tbspdry oregano
  6. 1/2 tbspdry basil
  7. 1/2 tbspgarlic powder
  8. 2 cupslow sodium beef broth
  9. 6hero/ grinder rolls
  10. 1/2 lbany cheese you prefer, sliced

Cooking Instructions

6-8 hours
  1. 1

Slice the steak as thinly as possible. (If you can, have your butcher slice the steak for you. If not, that is fine.) Rub the spices onto the slices of steak. Place the steak in refrigerator. Let the spices marinate for 1-2 hours.

  2. 2

Turn on your broiler, then place the steak into the oven. Cook the steak for 6-8 minutes, until browned. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes.

  3. 3

When the steak has cooled, put the steak into the slow cooker. They may overlap.

  4. 4

Add the onion and peppers into the slow cooker as well now.

  5. 5

Pour the broth over the onions, peppers, and steak. Stir to mix.

  6. 6

Place the cover on the slow cooker, set the temperature on low, and cook for 6-8 hours. We cooked it for 7 hours and it was perfect.

  7. 7

Put two slices of cheese on a sliced roll, then pile the steak, peppers, and onion on top of them. Serve with fries, a salad, vegetables, or eat it alone.

  8. 8

    Enjoy!

Since I was a kid, I remember sitting in the kitchen to watch and/or help my parents. As I grew up, I decided to try their recipes and experiment with different recipes. Some were very good and I re-make them all of the time. Others? Yeah, I never tried them again. All of the recipes that I post are the very good ones. Also, while growing up, my pops suffered from high blood pressure, so my mom stopped adding sodium. Since that is how I was raised, all of the dishes that I post do not have any extra sodium added to it. A lot of friends and family who try my recipes, either do not notice nor miss it. But in no way am I saying not to add salt if you use my recipes. If you want to add it, then go for it.In closing, I hope that you enjoy my recipes. If you use any, then please post pictures. Enjoy!
