preheat oven to *350

combine apples, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, almond extract, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cranberry juice, cranberries & water in a medium saucepan over medium- high heat. cook until fruit is soft but not mushy, about 10 minutes

remove from heat & transfer to a gratin dish or 9 inch glass pie plate

place bread in a food processor & pulse to form coarse crumbs

in small bowl, mix together breadcrumbs, walnuts, oats, butter, & remaining brown sugar & cinnamon with ur fingers to blend. sprinkle over apples & bake, uncovered until lightly browned, about 20-25 minutes
