Remove the outer leaves of thr cabbage, rinse first in frssh water, leave in salted waterfor a while, and then rinse again. Quater the cabbage and cut out the stalk. Shred or leave in quaters.

Peel, core, and slice the apples.

Chop the onion and fry to a golden brown in the butter, oil, and sugar. Add the cabbage, apples, and other ingredients, except the vinegar.

Simmer slowly in a little water until the cabbage is nearly tender. Add the vinegar, allow to simmer until tender and dry; serve hot.
