Orange Squares
One of my favorite desserts my mom always made.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350deg.
- 2
Beat eggs well.
- 3
Add brown sugar, vanilla & butter - beat well.
- 4
Add baking powder - beat well.
- 5
Add flour and mix thoroughly.
- 6
Pour into greased lasagna-sized pan & bake for 35 minutes.
- 7
Right before squares come out of oven, make glaze by mixing powdered sugar, orange peel & enough orange juice to make it syrupy.
- 8
Poke lots of holes in top of hot cake with a fork & pour glaze over top while cake is still hot.
- 9
Let cool in pan, then cut into squares and enjoy.

Yuzu Squares Yuzu Squares
I wanted the cookie part to be quite thick, and the rich topping part to be fairly thing...that was the balance I was aiming for.The yuzu juice is not used. Use it in hot pots, or mix with honey and hot water and enjoy as a drink. This tastes better the next day than when it's freshly baked. Recipe by Setsubunhijiki cookpad.japan -
Holiday Squares Holiday Squares
There are a few versions of this recipe out there but a family friend shared this with me in 1979 and I haven't changed it since. The recipe calls for cherry pie filling but blueberry or raspberry pie filling will work just as well. This freezes well, too, so you can save some for later!Although they are called Holiday Squares you certainly don't need a holiday to bake them :) annerose0 -

Eclair Squares Eclair Squares
He told me that I have to use Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge for the brownie mix and Jell-o's Cook & Serve Vanilla for the vanilla pudding mix! So I made it like he said this time. Sometimes I put some brandy in as well, even though it's not listed in the ingredients... I think these eclair squares may be a little too sweet for Japanese tastes, but it seems that Americans would love it.Since this recipe is basically just mixing and baking, there aren't really any real tricks to it. I tend to add 2-3 teaspoons brandy to the brownie mix and 1/2-1 teaspoon to the vanilla pudding to give the eclairs a nice aroma. Recipe by Mama Imani cookpad.japan -
