Khosala Saaga ( Amarnth leaves)
Saag is typical staple food of Odisha.
My Grandma's favourite she always cook this in varieties. In lunch everyday she cook Saag and encourage to eat this because this is a good sauce of Iron and very good for your eye sight.
There are many vitamins in saag . Eating Saag in regular diet can help in keeping your eyes healthy and functioning well.
saag is not just cooked by itself but often combined with all kinds of vegetables, dals, fishes , dry fishes , goat meat ,lamb and chicken.
Saag dishes are very popular in Odisha.

Ingredients

  1. 1 bunchamaranth leaves chopped
  2. 1Onion finely chopped
  3. 2Dry Red Chilli
  4. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  5. 10 podsGarlic crushed
  6. 1 teaspoonCumin Seeds Salt
  7. Oil
  8. Hand full of black gram vadi

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat oil in a pan,add red chillies,cumin and mustard once it starts
    crackling add chopped onions,garlic and saute till it gets nice golden colour.

  2. 2

    Now add chopped leaves and salt mix well.
    Cover and cook until leaves are well cooked.

  3. 3

    Heat pan on a low flame.Add vadi and roast it till turns in to
    light brown.Stir it continuously to avoid burning of vadis.After roasting vadis to light brown colour switch off the
    flame and let it get cool down completely.

  4. 4

    Add roasted vadis,mix well, cover and cook for another 2 minutes.
    Now saag is ready to serve.serve with rice or chapati.
