A very dear friend of mine an Arab used to make these and I loved her company. Now that she is away in her own country I miss her a whole lot. Just to remind me of the good times I make these.

Pre heat oven. 180-200 degrees centigrade

Prepare the yeast by adding half cup warm milk +sugar +dry yeast. Let it stand for 10-15 minutes or till u see a foam rising

Sift flour and baking powder in a large bowl. Make a well in between. Break the egg, add oil, yeast mixture and then the rest of the milk.

Mix with hands and start kneading. You might need a little extra warm water just in case the dough needs to be soft. Really soft n sticky. Knead for at least 5-7 mins

Keep the dough aside,covered. For 1 hour in a warm place. Make the sugar syrup. Heat water n sugar till sugar is melted and slightly thickened. Switch off and add vanilla

Now take small amounts of the dough. (Smaller than the size of a ping pong ball) flatten it on the palm and put the creme cheese in between and wrap. Roll to make balls

Place these balls 1c.m apart in a Pyrex dish or a baking dish.

This will make approximately 40 balls

Brush the top of the balls with oil or an egg yolk. Place in the oven for 25-27 minutes.

Remove from oven and instantly pour the syrup all over the balls. It should be bubbling when you pour.

Let it sit for good 10 mins before serving. Serve warm.
