In a bowl or on your countertop, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Mix until everything is well combined. Make a well in the center of the flour and add the egg, butter, and a splash of milk (just a little). Start mixing until the dough is soft and easy to shape. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk, a small amount at a time, until the dough is smooth and doesn’t stick to your fingers.

Let the dough rest for one hour. Then shape the arepas, making sure they aren’t too thick so they cook through. Use a fork to poke holes in them.

Heat a skillet or griddle over low heat. Once hot, cook the arepas until done. Let them cool and enjoy.
