Ingredients

20-25 minutes
4 servings
  1. 1 cuppaneer (crumbled)
  2. 1 teaspoonsemolina
  3. 2 tablespoonsmilk
  4. 2 teaspoonsall-purpose flour
  5. 1 teaspoonghee
  6. 2 teaspoonsmilk powder
  7. 1 pinchbaking soda
  8. Ghee or oil, as needed, for frying
  9. For the sugar syrup--
  10. 1 cupsugar
  11. 2 cupswater
  12. 1/2 teaspooncardamom powder
  13. Saffron strands or yellow food coloring, as desired
  14. Sliced almonds and pistachios, as needed, for garnish

    In a small bowl, mix the semolina and milk together and let it sit for 5 minutes.

    In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the mixture (including the semolina and milk mixture). Mix well. Knead the mixture for about 5 minutes until it becomes soft, smooth, and uniform.

    Divide the mixture into 4 parts. Take one part and roll it into a long rope, then shape it into a spiral to form a jalebi. Repeat with the remaining portions.

    Heat ghee or oil in a pan and fry the jalebis until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water until it reaches a one-string consistency.

    Add the fried jalebis to the hot sugar syrup and let them soak for 2-3 minutes.

  7. 7

    Remove the jalebis from the syrup, place them on a plate, and garnish with sliced almonds and pistachios before serving.
