I know it's easy to buy a jar but there is nothing quite like making your own! You can leave out the walnuts if you prefer & if you don't like mixed peel just buy whichever dried fruit you like. There's no cooking apart from toasting the walnuts!

Ingredients

Makes approx 48 servings
  • 500 gmixed dried fruit
  • 4 tbspbrandy (optional!)
  • 100 gwalnuts, toasted & chopped
  • 1grated apple
  • 2 tspground mixed spice
  • 4 tbspcaster sugar
  • 100 gmelted butter

Steps

  1. 1

    Place the dried fruit into a large bowl & pour over the brandy. Cover with a tea towel & leave to soak overnight or until all the liquid has gone.

    Put the walnuts on a baking tray and & place into the oven (140 Fan/160C/Gas3) for about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven & chop finely.

  3. 3

    Add the nuts to the fruit along with all the other ingredients & mix well. Pack the mincemeat into a clean jar & keep in the fridge until ready to use.
