Ingredients

  • 6 tbspwater
  • 150 mlbuttermilk (Add 2 tbs of vinegar to regular liquid milk and leave to stand for 10mins)
  • 1egg, beaten (at room temperature)
  • 57 gbutter, melted
  • 454 gall-purpose or bread flour
  • 57 gsugar
  • 1 tspsalt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoonsregular orinstant yeast
  • oil for frying

Steps

  1. 1

    Add all ingredients to a bowl if using instant yeast. Otherwise, proof the yeast in the water before adding to other ingredients.

  2. 2

    Using a dough hook on your stand mixer, mix until the dough is firm and not sticking to the bowl.

  3. 3

    Roll out dough into another bowl, cover and set aside until the dough is double in size.

  4. 4

    After the dough has risen, place on a lightly floured surface and knead gently. Divide the dough in half, wrapping one half.

  5. 5

    Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to desired thickness, then cut with a sharp cutter.

    Place cut out dough on a baking tray and set aside to double in size.

    In a medium pan on heat add oil for frying.

    When the oil is hot enough, gently add your cut out dough. Flip when golden brown.

    Sprinkle sugar or cover with a glaze if you desire. Serve
