Beat the brown and white sugars with the butter, then add the egg and vanilla and beat again.

Mix the dry ingredients together and add them to the previous mixture, beating until it forms a dough.

Chill in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to firm up for shaping.

Add the chocolate chips and walnuts, knead by hand, shape into balls, flatten slightly, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spaced apart to allow for spreading. If desired, add colored chocolate and walnuts on top.

Bake in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 15 minutes until lightly browned on the bottom. Enjoy!
