#indiankitchen - This dish is very popular in Kerala where it is called Chakkakuru Thoran. There are obviously many version to this yummy preparation. Each family have their own traditional version. So do not throw away the seeds after consuming the fruit. Go ahead and prepare this humble delicacy.

I found these jackfruit seeds in a local supermarket here, so decided to give it a try. It turned out very yummy. Easy and a simple to prepare, it is packed with flavour and can be enjoyed with hot steamed rice and sambar / rasam or with chapati for a sumptuous meal.

Ingredients

  1. 350gms. Jackfruit seeds
  2. 2-3 tbsp.oil
  3. 1" cinnamon stick
  4. 3-4cloves
  5. 2green cardamoms
  6. 1 tsp.mustard seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp.cumin seeds
  8. 1/4 tsp.asafoetida
  9. 1-2green chilies, slit
  10. 1 sprigcurry leaves
  11. 1onion, chopped
  12. 2-3garlic cloves, chopped
  13. 1" ginger, chopped
  14. to tastesalt
  15. 1/2 tsp.turmeric powder
  16. 1 tsp.coriander powder
  17. 1 tsp.red chili powder
  18. 2 tbsp.fresh grated coconut
  19. 1 tbsp.coriander leaves, chopped
  20. 1 tsp.lime juice

Steps

  1. 1

    Pressure cook the jackfruit seeds for 4-5 whistles and drain well.

    Peel the outer white portion. Crush them slightly and keep aside.

    Heat oil in a pan & temper with cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves, asafoetida, mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Saute for a few seconds.

    Now add the onion, curry leaves, ginger, garlic & green chilies. Saute till light brown.

    Add all the dry spices and give it a toss.

    Add the boiled jackfruit seeds. Mix everything well & stir fry for 2 minutes.

    When done, add fresh grated coconut, lime juice & coriander leaves.

    Serve as a side dish with rice or chapati.
