I learnt to make this dal from my Mom-in-law. It's very easy and tasty. Till today I make it in her style. Love it. Thanks to her.
Steps
- 1
Wash the tur dal nicely till the water runs clear. Add fresh water to it and cook in a rice cooker or steamer for 15 to 20 minutes. Keep aside.
- 2
In a cooking pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle. Add green chillies, red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida.
- 3
Add tomatoes and salt and cook till the tomatoes are soft and mushy. Mash it with a potato or vegetable masher.
- 4
Add turmeric powder and chilli powder and cook till the oil appears at the surface.
- 5
Add the cooked dal. Add some hot water and adjust it's consistency. Cook till it comes to a boil. Off the flame.
- 6
Garnish with lemon juice and coriander leaves.
- 7
