Shorshe Dharosh jhal is a delicious bengali dish which is made of okra with thick mustard gravy. This dish is delicious taste. It is a very simple and easy to cook dish. It can be served with rice/roti.

Okra is an excellent sauce of vitamins C and K1. Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient that contributes to your overall immune function, while vitamin K1 is a fat-soluble vitamin that’s known for it's role in blood clotting. Additionally, okra is low in calories and carbs and contains some protein and fiber. Many fruits and vegetables lack protein, which makes okra somewhat unique.

Ingredients

3 persons
  1. 250 grmsOkra
  2. 2 tbspsesame seeds
  3. 1 tbspmustard seeds
  4. 1medium sized tomato
  5. 4-5green chillies
  6. 1 tspturmeric powder
  7. to tastesalt
  8. 3 tbspmustard oil

Cooking Instructions

    Wash the okra and then pat dry. Chop off the head and tail after drying.

    In a food processor, add mustard seeds, sesame seeds, green chillies, tomato, salt, little water and make a thick creamy paste.

    Heat 1 tbsp oil in a shallow frying pan. Saute the okra with a sprinkle of turmeric at medium heat. Cover and saute for about 4 minutes till okra is lightly but not fully cooked. Sprinkle salt.

    Now add the mustard paste to the okra and mix well.

    Add 4-5 tbsp of water and let the okra cook for few minutes.

    Once the gravy is thickened, turn off the flame. Drizzle generous amount of mustard oil.

    Cover the pan and let it for 2-3 minutes.

    Okra mustard chilli gravy is ready to be served to piping hot rice.
