Nepali dal bhat

This humble dish reminds me of the time I did the EBC (Everest Base Camp) in Nepal. When you trek in the Himalayas you will eat this everyday with other dish like curry, meat or veggies. Dal means Lentil and Bhat means rice. Also, this recipe was given to me from one of my Nepali friends. She usually just use her feeling until it taste right, but for the sake of Cookpad community, I have put some measurement as guideline.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Soaked your lentil with water overnight (or until the lentil swell). By doing this, your lentils will cook faster. Drained the water before cooking.
- 2
Heat oil in a saucepan. Add in garlic, ginger and onion. Saute until it becomes aromatic (onion looks soft).
- 3
Add in lentils, water, tomatos, coriander and turmeric stir well. Let it simmer for 20-25 mins (until lentils are soft), season with salt.
- 4
Taste your dal, adjust to your liking. Turned off the heat, your food is now ready to serve.
- 5
Note: Nepali dal is runny, not thick like the typical Indian lentil curry.

Lasooni dal |Lehsuni dal | Dal lasooni | Garlic dal tadka is a very versatile dal in terms of the lentil that can be used in it. One can choose to use toor dal, moong dal or masoor dal. There are multiple ways to make this dal, each one a little bit varied than the other.
