Hazelnut chocolate spread | the real deal!
Trust me once you have made and tasted this homemade hazelnut chocolate spread you will NEVER buy any nutella kind of spread again. This is the perfect addition to your ice cream! Let me know if you make it 🥰
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Turn oven on 180 on fan and place the hazelnuts inside a loaf pan to warm them up. This will help the hazelnuts release their beautiful and delicious natural oils. Cook inside the oven for 15 min.
- 2
Now in a nonstick pan, place slowly a bit of the sugar, and let it melt. The minute you see it caramelised remove from the heat for 5 seconds, add more sugar and then place the pan back on the stove/fire. Do that until you use all your sugar and have caramelised it. Check photos for help, it should look like second photo, careful to not burn it.
- 3
In a flat dish, place baking paper. Then in the same pan with the melted caramel, place all hazelnuts and make sure the caramel goes to all hazelnuts. Then place on the baking paper and let it cool. This will be very hard like a brittle! Once the brittle comes together break it with the back of a spatula.
- 4
Place the brittle, in a high speed mixer/blender. Add canola oil and blend until it comes to a runny consistency.
- 5
Add the chocolate of your choice, the more chocolate you add the more chocolate-y it will be! Use dark, milky or whatever you want. The hazelnut spread you just made will be warm so blend some more to help chocolate melt and become one with the hazelnut mixture.
- 6
This is how it looks in the end! Keep outside and add on top of your ice cream (it will Instantly become hard like what they serve at ice cream shops and my main photo above) or place in the fridge for an easier spread for your bread. Enjoy!

Hazelnut chocolate spread Hazelnut chocolate spread
Has anyone tried making a chocolate spread? Yes? No? Well, if you love chocolate and you do love spreads I mean dessert spreads not sandwich spreads then you will be amazed by this delicious recipe. 🙂This spread is for those Chocolate fans like my hubby!! ohhh and Hazelnut fans like me! Since I am dieting I have to be careful with my eating habits, but with this one it was truly quite hard to keep away from. When I bake or cook I have to try out the recipe to see how it turned out. Ohhh my, with this one I just could not stop 🙂 uhhh I kept tasting it, and not because it didn’t turn out well, it was just soooo gooood!!.This is similar to let’s say Nutella with a slight difference in the texture of the spread. It is not as creamy as Nutella but it does spread beautifully and it has a intense Hazelnut taste. 🙂 One of my favorite Pastry Chef made this a couple of years ago, and I just had to try this recipe out for myself when I first saw it. I have tried a few times to make a White Chocolate Spread but for some reason it just never works out. 🙁An absolutely scrumptious spread for bread, cookies, croissants, crackers, I can go on and on but I think you get the idea. When mixed with 100% pure chocolate powder, ghee, and honey, it makes a rich, tasty chocolate sandwich and pancake spread. Hobby Horseman -
