Ingredients

  1. meat
  2. 2 lbbeef chucks
  3. 2 tbspvegetable oil
  4. 2 cupwater
  5. 2 eachbeef bullion cubes
  6. 1 tbspworcestershire sauce
  7. 1 clovegarlic, peeled
  8. 1 eachbay leaf
  9. 1 mediumonion, chopped
  10. 1 tspsalt
  11. 1 tspsugar
  12. 1/2 tspground black pepper
  13. 1/2 tsppaprika
  14. 1 dashallspice
  15. 2 largecarrots, chopped
  16. 3ribs celery, chopped
  17. 2 tbspcornstarch
  18. 4 mediumpotatoes, chopped into chunks

Cooking Instructions

    Brown meat in hot oil over medium heat

  2. 2

    Boil the water and add bullion cubes.

  3. 3

    Add water w/bullion cubes, worcestershire sauce, garlic, bay leaves, onion, salt, pepper, paprika, and allspice.

    Cover and let simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

    Add vegetables, cover and cook 30 to 40 minutes longer.

    To thicken gravy, add corbstarch to 1 cup warm water, mix until smooth.

    Mix into stew

  8. 8

    Stir and cook until bubbly

My mother used to add A-1 as well as Worcestershire!
