I have always loved soft pretzels. But unless you get them from a bakery, they lack that chewy, homemade goodness. Now I can have them whenever I want and are they good!

Ingredients

1 hour 30 mins
6 servings
  1. pretzel twists
  2. 1 1/3 cup110 degree F. water
  3. 3 1/4 cupall-purpose flour
  4. 2 tbspinstant yeast
  5. 3 tbspbrown sugar
  6. 1/2 tbspsea salt or kosher salt
  7. 1 ozshredded cheddar cheese
  8. 4 quartboiling water
  9. 2 tbspbaking soda

Cooking Instructions

1 hour 30 mins
  1. 1

In large mixing bowl with hook attachment add flour.

  2. 2

In another bowl add heated water, yeast and brown sugar. Let sit 5 minutes to activate and become frothy.

  3. 3

Add yeast water to flour and knead for 5 minutes. You are looking for a soft dough ball to form. You may need to add extra flour, 1 tablespoon at a time to achieve this.

  4. 4

Once ball forms, cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm, draft free area for 1 hour.

  5. 5

On a lightly floured surface turn out dough. Separate into 6 equal portions.

  6. 6

Take each portion and roll out to a 12" rope.

  7. 7

Take each rope and twist 4 times.

  8. 8

In boiling water add your baking soda. Boil each twist for 10 seconds then drain on paper towels.

  9. 9

Preheat oven to 425°F. On a parchment or silicone lined baking tray place your twists.

  10. 10

Sprinkle each twist with sea salt. Sprinkle cheese on 3 of the twists too.

  11. 11

Place in oven and bake 15-25 minutes until nicely golden brown.

  12. 12

    Enjoy chewy pretzel goodness!

You can easily change flavors by adding some garlic powder, or perhaps cinnamon sugar. The flavor combinations are yours to explore:-)
