A friend introduce me to haluski twenty years ago. I never had it before and loved it. She made hers without the cottage cheese, so you can do that as well. When I first got with my boyfriend, he told me that his family made it with cottage cheese. I like it that way. This is comfort food for my family.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 lbbacon, cut into one inch pieces
  2. 1/2 smallhead of cabbage, sliced in thin strips
  3. 1 mediumonion, sliced
  4. 1 boxbowtie pasta (farfalle) cook and drain
  5. 3 cupcottage cheese, large curd, large container
  6. 1 tspred pepper flakes
  7. salt
  8. black pepper
  9. dashground nutmeg

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook bowtie pasta according to directions on box.

    In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Take bacon out. Leave bacon grease in the skillet.

    Fry cabbage and onion in the skillet with the bacon grease until a golden brown.

  4. 4

    Add bacon back to cabbage. Add bowtie pasta. Stir in the cottage cheese. Add salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, nutmeg. Heat until cottage cheese is a thin gooey sauce.
