Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cupGreen Moong Dal
  2. 1 tbspSemolina (Optional)
  3. 1/2 tspCumin Powder
  4. 1Onion (Finely Chopped)
  5. PinchAsafoetida
  6. PinchTurmeric Powder
  7. 3-4Green Chillies (Finely Chopped)
  8. 1/2-1 tbspGinger Paste
  9. 1/4 cupCoriander Leaves (Finely Chopped)
  10. 1/4 cupCurry Leaves (Finely Chopped)
  11. to tasteRed Chilli Powder
  12. 1 tspCornflour or (Rice Flour) for crispiness
  13. PinchBaking Flour
  14. to tasteSalt
  15. as neededOil (For Deep Frying)

Cooking Instructions

    Soak green moong dal for 5 to 6 hours.

    Drain all the water completely. Add the moong dal to a blender and blend it into a very coarse batter, using minimum amount of water.

    Add this blended paste into a mixing bowl. To it, add the remaining ingredients: asafoedita, cumin powder, onions, green chillies, ginger paste, coriander leaves, curry leaves, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, semolina, cornflour, baking flour and salt. Mix well.

    Make small balls out of the mix. Deep fry these balls in hot oil on medium flame. These are made in Paniyaram Pan. So called Moong Dal Paniyaram.

    Serve hot with any chutney.
