A Trial to Make Broccoli More Palatable
I think it is high time we give the poor vegetable some considerationâ¦and find a middle ground where both lovers and haters of broccoli can find some peace.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut, rinse and boil the broccoli florets until tender (about 6-10 minutes).
- 2
Heat oil in a saucepan and sauté the onions, garlic, bay leaf and cinnamon until the onions turn translucent. Add the broccoli and salt to the onions and mix well.
- 3
Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Once it has cooled considerably, transfer to a blender and blend into a smooth mixture. You might want to do it in batches, to avoid a mess.
- 4
Return the blended mixture to the saucepan and add water to reach required consistency. Add the star anise, red chili flakes, and more salt if required and let it simmer for about five minutes.
- 5
Remove into serving bowls, garnish with sour cream/cream/cream cheese, add a dash of pepper and enjoy.
- 6
For a more indulgent version, add grated cheddar a few minutes before serving and allow the cheese to melt into the soup.I used cream cheese for garnish. Bring it to room temperature, add a little bit of warm water /milk to dilute it to a pourable consistency and use.

Easy-to-Make with a Microwave Broccoli Easy-to-Make with a Microwave Broccoli
It's better to use a pot for boiling large amounts of broccoli, but I always use a microwave when it's a small amount.By adding water, it prevents the broccoli from becoming dry. I cooked this using a 500 W microwave. Shorten the time if you are using a 600 W microwave. Be careful not to overcook the broccoli. Recipe by Yuuyuu0221 cookpad.japan -

Roasted broccoli and walnut soup Roasted broccoli and walnut soup
Our neighbour had too much broccoli and generously gave us three large heads. Now, I like broccoli as much as the next person, but that's a lot of broccoli. Rather than cooking it a bit at a time and risk having it spoil before we got through it all, and with the weather outside being miserable and rainy besides, I decided to turn the lot into a pot of comforting soup. For extra flavour, I added roasted garlic and walnuts to the mix. It was a pretty tasty solution to our broccoli overage. Robert Gonzal -

How to Boil Broccoli How to Boil Broccoli
I love broccoli so I was trying out simple boiling methods. This method requires barely any water so it's more like steaming. With this method, you can really taste the difference in broccoli from varying regions and farms. Even my kindergarten-aged daughter could tell the difference.Steps 4-5: The amount of time to cook will vary depending on the size of the broccoli. If you want to use the broccoli in stew etc., then remove the lid right after stopping the heat. If you are making these for small children, then leave the lid on for 2 more minutes after turning off the heat. Recipe by Blue poppy cookpad.japan -
