Breakfast Congee (Slow Cooker)

I used to think that making congee required waking up early to cook and standing by the stove to watch it (worried it might burn or spill over if covered). Then I had a sudden idea—why not try using my newly discovered slow cooker? I'm happy to say it worked, and I made a delicious pot of hot congee. I wanted to share this with everyone to try!
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Rinse the rice thoroughly using a sieve.
- 2
Pour into the slow cooker and add 10 cups of water or more.
- 3
Set the slow cooker for 4 hours.
- 4
After about 2 and a half hours, the rice will have absorbed some water.
- 5
During the remaining time, the water will continue to soften the rice into congee.
- 6
When the time is up, serve with side dishes.
- 7
I personally like thick congee, but if you prefer it thinner, you can stir in some warm water.

I love the Chinese congee served in Chinatown. It's healthy and warms your body, too. I recommend serving it with walnuts.Chinese congee uses about 4 to 5 times more water than Japanese congee.I used 3 cups of water in this recipe, but you can add more water to adjust it to your desired consistency.Once you make it, you'll be able to memorize the recipe. You just need 1 bowl of rice, 3 cups of water, then 1 teaspoon each of salt, Chinese chicken stock granules, and sesame oil. It's so simple. Recipe by Orihime mama cookpad.japan -
