Easy, simple, and delicious BBQ bean recipe. Great for a meal, a side for a BBQ, or potluck. You can cook it in the pressure cooker, crockpot, or stovetop. I have cooked it on the stovetop and my pressure cooker, both came out great.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Some people soak their beans overnight. I'm going to be honest, I just rinse mine and sort through them, making sure there is no dirt, rocks, or debris.
- 2
Add the rinsed beans to the pressure cooker or pot(choose a decent sized pot with a lid)
- 3
Cut the bacon into about 1inch pieces or desired size. And add them into the beans. (I used hickory smoked this time, but I have used original and it tastes good too.)
- 4
Add the 6 cups of water and seasonings-garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 5
Dice up the onion into small pieces and add that to the beans as well.(I almost forgot to add that part here lol you can add the onion after adding the bacon, that's what I do.)
- 6
In the pressure cooker, cook for 30 minutes and then stir, adding water and any seasonings if necessary. Then cook an additional 30 minutes.
- 7
On the stovetop, after it comes to a boil, turn down heat so it doesn't boil over. Let it simmer on low to medium heat, for 4-6 hours or until done. Checking periodically, stirring, and adding water if necessary. Seasonings are always to taste. So if it taste like it needs a lil more seasonings, then you can add some in.
- 8
Drain the beans just enough for the water to cover the top of the beans, as shown in the picture.
- 9
After the beans are done cooking. Add in the brown sugar and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. I usually do a 3 swirl thing around the pot, with the BBQ sauce about 3x and add the brown sugar in the pot about 2x of the amount shown in the picture. But I add the brown sugar and BBQ sauce to taste as well. I don't cook many things with measurements, so my apologies.
- 10
Mix the BBQ sauce and brown sugar into the beans real good.
- 11
Can be served as a main dish or a side dish. Enjoy!

We love a good grill-out, but not too fond of overly sweet - BBQ sauce laden mushy beans with no flavor. This recipe fit the bill. Use the beans you love - the mix of varieties is nice to look at too. kate -
Smoked BBQ Beans Smoked BBQ Beans
Perfect for your summer cookout! I’ve always made these beans in either the oven or slow cooker. But yesterday I was already cooking on the smoker so I figured...why not?! And man am I happy I did! It will be hard to make these beans without a smoker from this point on! (Note: Don't assume this is a spicy recipe because of the jalapeños. It is all about the flavor! It actually has very little spiciness at all!) #mycookbook Boca de Fogo -

Smoked bbq baked beans Smoked bbq baked beans
I needed something to do with my leftover Easter Ham... A few days after Easter I make potato salad, ( because I had leftover Colored Easter eggs see smoked potato salad recipe.) and hot dogs , this year I found away to use my ham in some baked beans. Yes I also smoked my hotdogs, look for that recipe coming up soon. So I had a cook out just a few days after Easter that has slowly became Family tradition just to uses most of the Easter leftovers ,this year I changed it and used the smoker instead. 🌈NinjaMommaKitchen🌈 -
